Todo-Cat, a to-do list app for iPhone and iPad with a cartoon cat as its mascot, is free on the App Store right now. The tip site New Mobile Life lists its regular price as US$0.99 and describes the offer as limited time. The US App Store listing showed Free when we checked, but no end date is given anywhere, so the price could go back up at any time.

What the app does

Todo-Cat keeps things simple. You add a task, then edit it, tick it off or delete it, so chores, work items and study plans sit in one list. The developer’s website adds that tasks can be tagged by category, such as work, life or study. An animated cat that breathes and blinks sits on screen while you work through the list.

The latest update, version 1.6.1, added two features that make the app more useful than a plain checklist:

  • Repeating reminders: set a one time reminder, or repeat it daily, weekly, monthly, yearly or on a custom interval, for example every 7 weeks. Reminders follow your edits, and future notifications stop once a task is marked complete.
  • Focus timer: tap the paw icon to start a 25-minute countdown, or change the length. On supported devices and system versions, the remaining time shows on the Lock Screen and in the Dynamic Island.

The same update also fixed duplicate notifications, according to the release notes.

Widgets, languages and requirements

Todo-Cat offers home screen widgets and supports StandBy, so your list can stay visible on a charging iPhone. The developer’s site says the widgets need iOS 15 or later.

  • Requires iOS 14.0 or later on iPhone, or iPadOS 14.0 or later on iPad
  • Size: 27.7 MB
  • Languages: English, Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese

On privacy, the App Store listing states that the developer does not collect any data from the app. The listing mentions no account, subscription or in-app purchases.

How to get it

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad and search for “Todo-Cat”.
  2. Make sure the button shows Get and not a price. If you see a price, the free period has ended in your region.
  3. Tap Get and confirm the download, then allow notifications if you want reminders.

Who it suits

Todo-Cat is a good fit for students and anyone who wants a light, friendly task list with a built in focus timer, without signing up for a productivity service. If you need shared lists, projects or calendar syncing, the listing does not mention them, so a fuller task manager would serve you better.

The app has only a handful of ratings so far, and features such as Live Activities depend on your device and iOS version. Since it costs nothing during the offer, it is easy to try and remove if the style is not for you.
