Evil Timefall, a retro first-person shooter on Steam, no longer costs anything. The Steam store listing now shows it as free to play, and a Canadian store view shows no price either. Before the change it sold for $1.50, according to Press F News.

What exactly is free?

The full game is free, not a trial. Developer and publisher Pinadva Games first announced the change in early October, saying it would take effect once Steam approved it. A later post on the game’s Steam community page says it is now free, with no purchase cost, no in-game purchases and no extra monetization. Anyone who already owned the game keeps full access.

Here is the short version:

  • Game: Evil Timefall, released March 11, 2025
  • Platform: Windows, through Steam
  • Mode: single player
  • Price: free to play, with no end date listed on the store page
  • Demo: a separate free demo also exists on Steam

What is the game like?

Evil Timefall is a boomer shooter set in a dark medieval world. You fight zombie knights, witches and demons, collect gold and spend it on weapon upgrades. The developers say they drew on the film Army of Darkness, mixing horror with comedy. Wizards on each level hand out power-ups.

Press F News describes it as a mix of boomer shooter and roguelite ideas. A review at Fix Gaming Channel was harsher, calling the movement and shooting stiff and the content thin, with only three levels, two weapons and two enemy types.

Prices

In Canada: free. The Canadian Steam listing shows no price, so there is nothing to convert from US dollars.

In the United States: free as well, down from the earlier $1.50.

Steam lists the game as free to play and shows no end date, so there is no countdown to beat. Developers can change prices later, so the safest move is to add it to your library now if you want it.

How do you claim it?

  1. Sign in to your Steam account in the Steam app or at store.steampowered.com.
  2. Open the Evil Timefall page and press the Play Game button.
  3. The game installs into your library like any other title. No payment details are needed.

Who it suits

Boomer shooter fans. If you enjoy fast, simple shooters in the classic style and like a horror comedy tone, a free download costs you nothing but disk space and an evening.

Anyone curious about the catch. Steam reviews for the game are rated Mixed, and some reviewers said it should have been free from the start. Press F News says replayability is low and most players finish the campaign in one sitting. Treat it as a short extra, not a long-term game.

Players on Mac or Linux. Steam lists Windows only, so this one is not for you unless you run Windows.

Who should wait. If you want deep progression, many levels or polished controls, the reviews suggest you may be disappointed. You can try the free demo first, or simply skip it.

What is still unknown?

Pinadva Games has not said whether more levels or updates are planned. Steam shows no end date for the free price, but the developer has called the change permanent, so check the store page for the current status before you download.

Next step

Open the Evil Timefall page on Steam, read the latest reviews, and press Play Game if it appeals.
