Apple’s AirPods Pro 3 are selling for $199 at Amazon in the United States at the time of writing, shipped and sold by Amazon itself. Apple’s own store lists the same earbuds at $249, so the Amazon price is $50 under the official list price. Amazon shows it as a 20 percent saving. We checked the listing on October 20, and Amazon shows no end date, so the price can change at any time.

What you get

AirPods Pro 3 are Apple’s current noise cancelling earbuds. According to Apple, they offer:

  • Active Noise Cancellation that Apple rates at up to 2x more than AirPods Pro 2
  • A built in heart rate sensor that tracks heart rate and calories burned during workouts
  • IP57 dust, sweat and water resistance, a first for AirPods
  • Up to 8 hours of listening time with noise cancellation on a single charge
  • Five ear tip sizes, including a new XXS option, with a thin layer of foam over the silicone
  • Live Translation in select languages and regions, plus Hearing Aid capability

How good is this price?

9to5Toys, which tracks Apple deals closely, called $199 the best deal around right now. It is not the lowest price the earbuds have reached: the outlet reported that they sold for $179 during the fall Prime Day sale. 9to5Toys also said it expects a possible return to that level around Black Friday, but that is a forecast, not a promise.

For anyone who does not want to wait for the holiday sales, paying $50 less than Apple’s own price on brand new earbuds sold by Amazon is a fair deal.

Who it suits, and who should skip it

AirPods Pro 3 make the most sense for iPhone owners who want strong noise cancellation for commuting, flights or the gym. The heart rate sensing and the IP57 rating are useful for anyone who trains with earbuds in.

Android users should probably look elsewhere. The earbuds connect over Bluetooth to other phones, but Apple builds features such as heart rate tracking and Live Translation around its own devices. If you already own AirPods Pro 2 and are happy with them, the upgrade is nice to have rather than urgent.

What to check before you buy

  • Make sure the listing says AirPods Pro 3 and that it is shipped and sold by Amazon.com, not a third party seller.
  • The price applies to new units on amazon.com in the US. Prices in other countries and at other stores may differ.
  • Live Translation is only available in select languages and regions, according to Apple, so check that it covers the languages you need.
  • Amazon prices change often, so confirm the price in your cart before you pay.
